Dr. Gabriel Chu, FRCSC is a proud Edmonton native and one of Canada’s most accomplished ophthalmic surgeons. After earning his medical degree from the prestigious University of Alberta, he went on to complete advanced surgical training at the University of Western Ontario, one of the country’s top programs. He earned Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and US board diploma distinctions that underscores his exceptional skill and dedication to surgical excellence.
Dr. Chu is a co-founder and co-owner of Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser alongside Dr. Joseph King, and a respected faculty member at the University of British Columbia department of medicine, where he helps shape the next generation of medicine students/doctors and eye care specialists. He is also clinical faculty of the new SFU department of medicine.
As one of the main and busiest ophthalmologists in British Columbia, Dr Chu also provides on-call and eye trauma services for Fraser Health authority. He is well-rounded in eyelid surgery, cataract surgery and laser surgery, having performed over tens of thousands of procedures.
Dr. Chu is deeply committed to staying at the cutting edge of ophthalmology. He actively researches the latest innovations in surgical technique and vision correction technology, ensuring his patients receive world-class care and outstanding outcomes. He personally experienced the benefits of laser eye surgery in 2015, when he entrusted his vision to Dr. King, making him both a grateful patient and understanding care provider.

“I didn’t realize how much I was missing until I decided to have my vision corrected at Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser Centre.
